- Can be used for scalp treatments; stimulates hair follicles to promote hair growth; massage a generous amount of coconut oil on the scalp for about 10 minutes, once or twice a week.
- Great as a moisturizer for skin and lips.
- It can also be used as a natural makeup remover. The vitamins and minerals help to rehydrate and rejuvenate the skin.
My moms recipe for making homemade coconut oil is as follows;
Meat of two coconuts cut into small pieces, put in blender and blend with three cups of water. Using a bowl and cheesecloth to separate the milk from the pieces of coconut, pour coconut over cheesecloth and into bowl, the coconut pieces will stay on the cheesecloth, squeeze cheese cloth to get out excess milk. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and put into the refrigerator until coconut water and coconut separate (takes about 24 hours). Once separated, the top layer is the oil, remove top layer place into a frying pan on low heat and stir continuously until coconut oil is seen and the part of the coconut in the oil turn a golden brown. Once this is reached turn off burner and strain.

Coconuts have many beneficial properties, it is loaded with many vitamins and minerals that promote health. I enjoy my coconut scalp massages and a cup of coconut water. It helps me to feel rejuvenated and gives me the boost I need to get through those hectic days. The scalp messages are amazing and the smell from the coconut in my hair is so relaxing. (Have a treatment in my hair while I am writing this and it sure is a treat).
